School Governor(s)

11 Jan 2021   |   Wellspring Academy Trust   |   Voluntary Role

About Wellspring

Wellspring Academy Trust is a growing Multi-Academy Trust with 25 academies, including five Free Schools, across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. We are committed to making a difference to the lives and life chances of the young people and the communities we serve.

We are an education charity which manages primary, secondary, special and alternative provision academies. Our aim is to nurture children in every way possible, enabling them to achieve their potential and aspirations whilst becoming responsible and kind members of society at a time when there are so many external influences and potential distractions.

The opportunity

We are seeking some special individuals to join our Local Governing Bodies, bringing their skills, experience and passion to contribute to the next stage of their extremely exciting and rewarding journey. We are committed to ensuring our bodies reflect the communities they serve.  We are currently under-represented by individuals from Black, Asian, Mixed/Multiple and other ethnic minority groups and individuals aged below 30.  We understand that bringing a range of perspectives makes for better decision-making so would encourage you wholeheartedly to talk to us if you’d like to find out more.

We are seeking individuals that:

  • Are self-motivated and organised.
  • Enjoy working as part of an inclusive and supportive team.
  • Are passionate about improving the life chances for young people.

What is most important to us is enthusiasm, interest and the willingness to learn.

Our Information Pack explains what a governor does and what your involvement with a school would look like. Governor positions are not only open to parents. Trust appointed governors are not elected by a parent election but are instead appointed directly by the Trust Board.

We ask that you commit to attending 6 meeting per year and are willing to spend some of your free time getting to know more about the schools you’d be supporting. We will then provide you with the training you need to do the role.

What does the role offer?

  • A chance to develop your own personal skills
  • Access to a programme of free training in respect of education/governance matters
  • A sense of achievement in helping make a difference to children reaching their potential
  • The support and guidance from fellow governors

If you want to know more about the application process and what support we can offer you, please call or email Kate Storr, Regional Governance Officer, on 07375 391840 or Sam Corbett, Governance Manager on
