Young Enterprise

Park House are again competing in The Young Enterprise Company Programme and recently had the pleasure of the Young Enterprise CEO, Sharon Davies, visiting the student team in Grimsby. Last year the team won the area final and progressed the regional final, finishing in an amazing 4th place. This year, students have similar lofty aspirations!

This year’s Young Enterprise Team comprises of students Kyle, Ryan, Dean, Maisey and Maddison and their company, This ‘N’ That, is selling scented candles that can be heated on an indoor burner. They have a range of candles that come in various shapes and luxurious scents and rival many of the popular High Street brands. The team has attended a number of trade fairs to date, have started to sell their product online and next month will be interviewed by a panel of judges and pitch their enterprise idea to an audience of approximately 100 business people.

Park House staff have seen all of the students grow in confidence since participating in The Young Enterprise Company Programme and throughout the years this has always transferred into the classroom in positive ways. One current student spoke about attending the trade fair and giving him something positive to do at the weekends and helping to keep him out of any mischief.

After seeing some of our students speak during an interview at one of the many trade fairs they have attended, Sharon wanted to meet members in person and learn more about their experiences. Kyle spoke to Sharon about how they came up with their product, the final designs and how it was manufactured. Ryan spoke to her about the financial side to the business. Both of these encounters were unprompted and demonstrated improved confidence.

Sharon spent the morning speaking to students about their product, their business roles within the company and learning about what motivates them. During her visit she was also extremely complimentary about the Park House site and the work that each staff member undertakes in order to support students in range of areas and needs. Sharon has also used our sister academy, Sevenhills, as a case study for Young Enterprise which featured in their annual report last year. We hope Park House students will feature in this year’s Young Enterprise annual report- fingers crossed!
