Do you want to work at a school where relationships matter and well-being is at the heart of all that we do? Are you ready to take on a new and exciting opportunity, to support and nurture children, to enable them to flourish? If so, then perhaps you’d like to join the team
at Horncastle Primary School?

Horncastle Primary is a special place. As a school, we champion inclusion and we place great importance on the concept of well-being. It matters to us that our children feel safe and that they enjoy good physical and mental health. Our school’s values are central to all we do. They permeate our curriculum, our relationships and our daily life.

In September 2021, our school joined Wellspring Academy Trust. This is a truly exciting development that offers our children, our staff and our school community a bright and successful future. In joining Wellspring, we have become part of a community that includes a diverse range of educational settings across Lincolnshire, North Lincolnshire and Yorkshire.

We are seeking to recruit a Pastoral Support Assistant, an important and relatively new post within our school’s staffing structure. This is an exciting opportunity to join a large primary school community, at a time when well-being has never had a higher profile. The post-holder will find that no two days are ever the same but every day is guaranteed to be rewarding. You will have the opportunity to truly make a difference!

Working under the direction of our Pupil Well-being Leader, the role of the Pastoral Support Assistant is to support pupil engagement by providing bespoke pastoral care, nurture and academic support, particularly to vulnerable and disadvantaged pupils. He or she will support the well-being of pupils, striving to enable them to flourish and reach their potential.

As a school, we believe that relationships are key to a child’s success; every interaction is an opportunity for an intervention. The work of the Pastoral Support Assistant will comprise a mixture of planned interventions (largely ELSA-based), together with interventions that are responsive to a particular child experiencing a particular difficulty (emotional &/or behavioural) at any given moment. Interventions might take place with children individually or in a small group context.

The interventions could be undertaken within the school’s dedicated & well-resourced Well-Being Room, in a child’s classroom or elsewhere around school. In addition, the Pastoral Support Assistant will daily be involved in supporting a wide range of children during lunchtimes and break times. In order to fulfil this varied role, there will be day-to-day support and guidance from our Pupil Well-being Leader, in addition to opportunities to work alongside the Therapeutic Counsellor who visits school once a week.

The post is 28 hours per week, term time only. The exact work schedule will be confirmed at the interview stage but it will be full mornings and part-afternoons.

This post is for a two year fixed-term period, until 31 st August 2024, in the first instance.

This is an exciting opportunity for a professional who shares our view that education should be based on fun, love and high expectations.
We are looking to recruit an educator who truly wants to make a difference to our children, families and school community. If you like the sound of our setting and approach, and if you would like to make a difference, we would encourage you to apply!

All candidates are also required to complete the following equal opportunities form:
